It has lots of great photographs, charts and diagrams, and TONS of real-world examples and descriptions of bacteria species and their effects in the human world. You don't need to read it cover to cover to understand what's going on in any one of the chapters - short recaps of information are given to remind you of what you should already know in order to understand what you're reading. But it does cover all of the standard information necessary for a firm grasp of microbiology. I was thoroughly pleased with the content and I have been studying microbial biochemistry for years. Though I wished there was more information on bioremediation, I understand why they left it out: I just checked out a book on just mycoremediation techniques and it was well over 800 pages! I was glad that Brock Microbology book successfully covered the general ideas before I leaped into advanced material.Great quality, great format, and excellent interactivity (questions and concept testing) make Brock Biology of Microorganisms a sturdy first step from general biology to the awesome world of microbes.
